Class types

League classes—in the studio and on e-telier—typically follow a monthly format. Offered on an ongoing basis, with flexible month-to-month registration, classes are designed so that students and instructors can develop lasting relationships based on mentorship. Many League students attend classes with the same instructors for several years; others take classes with a variety of instructors to learn a diversity of approaches.

Studio Classes

Many studio classes meet five days a week, with the instructor present for two to three of those days. Students who enroll in a class full-time have access to their studio all five days a week. Students enrolled part-time attend class twice a week, with the instructor present at least once. Other League classes meet only once or twice a week. Classes are offering in morning, afternoon, late afternoon, evening, or weekend sessions.

Workshops

Short-term workshops meet on an intensive schedule for a weekend or up to a week. Workshops offer opportunities for students who can’t commit to a month-long class or who want to immerse themselves into a new technique or approach. While workshops are often taught by renowned League instructors,  guest instructors with skills and perspectives new to the League also offer workshops.

Online Classes

Online classes are offered on e-telier, the League's virtual learning platform, allowing students anywhere in the world to study at the League. Our online classes are offered on the same monthly schedule as studio classes, with registration ongoing. Most online classes meet once or twice during week, with varying weekly schedules to accommodate a variety of student schedules.

Classes for Beginners

Most classes at The League are designed for both beginners and experienced artists alike, and in most classes, you’ll find students at a variety of skill and experience levels working in the same space. If you’re looking for a class that will provide more structured instruction for beginners, contact the clerks by calling 212-247-4510 (ext. 6) or visit the Registration Office at 215 W. 57th Street.

Full Time and Part Time Options

Many classes can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. Students who are enrolled in a class full time have access to their studio for several hours a day, five days a week. In these classes the instructor is typically only present two to three days a week. Students who are enrolled in a class only part time will attend class twice a week, with the instructor present at least once. On days when the instructor isn’t present students are expected to continue their practice with use of the studio. Class monitors are present at all times and can attend to any administrative needs.
