How to Access Your Online Classes

Getting Started

All our online classes take place on Zoom unless otherwise specified by your instructor. To get into your class's Zoom meeting, you will need to have the Zoom application downloaded to your computer. Please have this set up on your computer or tablet device before class starts.

If you do not have the Zoom app downloaded to your computer, please see below to get started:

NOTE: If you already have the Zoom application on your device, please make sure it is always updated to the latest version. Information on how to update your application can be found on the Zoom site at:

Accessing Your Online Class

Once you are registered for an online class, the Zoom meeting link and all related class resources will be accessible through the Art Students League Online Learning Hub. Please watch the video below to learn how to access the Online Learning Hub and find your class's Zoom link.

How do I Join My Zoom Class?

The video below from Zoom describes how to join a meeting using the Zoom app. We highly recommend that you use at a desktop/laptop computer or a tablet for the best class experience.

What are the system requirements for accessing my class?

We highly recommend that you use at a desktop/laptop computer or a tablet for the best experience. Because our online classes take place on Zoom, you will need to meet the requirements below for your Zoom application to work:

Minimum Zoom Requirements

Please note that Zoom regularly updates and documents their systems requirements on their site. To get the latest systems requirements information, please visit the link below:

System Requirements:

  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
  • Speakers and a microphone – built-in, USB plug-in, or wireless Bluetooth
  • A webcam or HD webcam - built-in, USB plug-in, or:
    • An HD cam or HD camcorder with a video-capture card Note: See the list of supported devices.
    • Note: For macOS, Zoom client 5.1.1 or higher is required.

Supported Operating Systems:

  • macOS X with macOS X (10.10) or later
  • Windows 11
  • Windows 10
    Note*: Devices running Windows 10 must run Windows 10 Home, Pro, or Enterprise. S Mode is not supported.

  • As an example, if the current version of Chrome is 111, then Zoom supports versions 109, 110, and 111. As new versions are released, the minimum version will also follow behind by 2 versions.

High-DPI Support:

Bandwidth Requirements:

    The bandwidth used by Zoom will be optimized for the best experience based on the participant‘s’ network. It will automatically adjust for 3/4/5G, WiFi, or wired networks.

    Recommended bandwidth for meetings and webinar panelists:

  • For 1:1 video calling:
    • For high-quality video: 600kbps (up/down)
    • For 720p HD video: 1.2Mbps (up/down)
    • For 1080p HD video: 3.8Mbps/3.0Mbps (up/down)
  • For group video calling:
    • For high-quality video: 1.0 Mbps/600kbps (up/down)
    • For 720p HD video: 2.6Mbps/1.8Mbps (up/down)
    • For 1080p HD video: 3.8Mbps/3.0Mbps (up/down)
    • For gallery view receiving: 2.0Mbps (25 views), 4.0Mbps (49 views)
  • For screen sharing only (no video thumbnail): 50-75kbps
  • For screen sharing with video thumbnail: 50-150kbps
  • For audio VoiP: 60-80kbps
  • or Zoom Phone: 60-100kbps
  • Recommended bandwidth for webinar attendees:

  • For panelists video on:
    • ~600kbps (down) for high-quality video
    • ~1.2-1.8Mbps (down) for 720p HD video
