Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery, 2nd Floor

Presented in celebration of the League’s 150th anniversary, this exhibition examines the League’s rich and complex history and its role in shaping the trajectories of American art from the school’s founding to today. The exhibition is drawn largely from the League’s collection and includes works by acclaimed alumni alongside works on loan by artist foundations, galleries, public institutions, and private collections. The range of works represent key periods in the League’s history as well as the diversity of mediums and techniques taught here, aiming to redefine what it means to be an American artist. The exhibition features artists who studied or taught at the League, including Milton Avery, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Helen Frankenthaler, Chitra Ganesh, Thomas Hart Benton, Norman Lewis, Richard Mayhew, Louise Nevelson, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mavis Pusey, Robert Rauschenberg, Emilio Sanchez, and many more.
